2. Introducing the AMSAAC Officers

--------------------------------------------

There are four officers who will be running AMSAAC together with the Regional Contact Persons (RCPs) from each chapter.

Aprilianto Eddy Wiria aka ”Eddy” (Indonesia) Secretary General

Waka Shibata aka ”Waka” (Japan) Communications Officer

Takaaki Sato aka ”Taka” (Japan/UK) Membership Officer

Michael Pineda aka ”Mike” (Philippines) Finance Officer

In this edition of the Newsletter, we have a message from Mike.

I’m Michael Pineda from the Philippines. I graduated from medicine in 2012 and have been in practice since then. I am mostly working for the academe, doing research in genetics and teaching physiology. I would say my experience in AMSA has shaped my career choices. I initially got involved with AMSA in 2009. I presented a research project as part of the paper presentation program in AMSC held in Taiwan. I believed in the objectives of our organization of Knowledge, Action and Friendship and since then, I have been more involved. I served as the Vice Overall Chairperson - Internal from 2009 to 2011. My time in AMSA as a student has been a life-changing experience of continuous learnings; most of which I am applying in my professional life now. Please don’t stop supporting AMSA. The inspiration that our organization provides to student doctors doesn’t stop as soon as we graduate. Let’s continue to touch base, maintain our connections and become relevant in society. I just know that if we organize ourselves, we will be capable of amazing achievements.

3. 36th AMSC 2015

--------------------------------------------

During the 27th EAMSC 2014, there was a vote for the host of the 36th AMSC 2015, and the result is... SINGAPORE!! So, for those of you who can't make it to Bangkok this year, we look forward to seeing you in Singapore next year!

A little AMSA history about the Singapore chapter... The 5th AMSC 1984 was held in Singapore, but Singapore was not included as a founding member when AMSA was officially founded at the 6th AMSC in the Philippines. They were not involved in AMSA for a few decades but to the joy of all, they rejoined the family and revived their membership in 2012. They successfully hosted the 25th EAMSC 2012 and so next year's EAMSC will be the third conference to be held in Lion City!

There is already a Facebook site (https://www.facebook.com/amsc2015?ref=profile)!

4. AMSAAC Indonesia Launched

--------------------------------------------

On Saturday, January 25th 2014, AMSAAC Indonesia held a Reunion Dinner! We have a report from Sylvia, our RCP.

It was a great afternoon and exciting moment for AMSAAC Indonesia. 33 doctors from 10 universities plus alumni who are currently based in Singapore (Dr. Deibby) and the Netherlands (Dr Eddy) came and joined the event. It was a moment when we all paused from our hectic routines and revived our memories of AMSA. Warm welcome from old friends and chit chat with alumni whom we never met before surely brings us new friendship and network. Joy fills the air as the MC, Darrell and Winnu bring more fun to the event with their jokes and games. Some alumni have become specialists in their own fields. We agreed to open up a network and create opportunities for fellow AMSA alumni and to support each other. We have the same dream to build a strong relationship and network to make a better future not only for fellow alumni but also for health and welfare in Indonesia. Much time is needed to pause again from our own work to make plans and make our dream a reality. Even though there are still so many things to do, there is so much to be thankful for, especially for the special moment we share, for AMSAAC and for our everlasting friendship.
